The present invention relates to a simplified preform handling device. The device comprises an end effector configured to substantially conform to and seal a neck finish portion of a preform in use. The device further comprises an alignment guide plate for aligning the preform with the end effector. When used in a transfer device of an injection blow molding system, or as end-of-arm tooling for simplified two-stage preform production, the device provides improved preform temperature profile and angular orientation characteristics. The device can also adjust a preform held on an injection core plate assembly of an injection mold during operation.
